Lodge 49 episode 5 exclusive sneak peek: Liz meets Gloria
To be specific, Dud is introducing his sister Liz to his new girlfriend (is it too early to call her that?) in a meeting that takes place at Shamroxx. It’s not technically your typical place in which you would expect such a meeting between a new girlfriend and family member, but Dud is also far from your typical person. Also, Liz seems to practically live at the establishment these days. He’s easily excited and sees the joy in little things; with that, he’s definitely excited about the idea of getting something that feels like love in his life.
As already established, the appeal that Dud has for Gloria is based on him offering her a respite from the sadness that exists elsewhere in her life. Her job forces her to come across as cruel, as it is her responsibility to effectively terminate employees. Dud is one of the few who doesn’t judge her for it, and actually sees her as a real person deserving of kindness and attention. She’s lonely herself away from work, and it became quickly clear that her having him work extra time was a way to spend more time with him. They had a small interruption in the form of Dud and Ernie’s search for Larry Loomis (which has concluded, as you can read in our most-recent episode review) but that seems to be over now.

So how does Liz feel about the idea of Dud being with someone new, and someone potentially much older than him? She questions whether or not Dud is just a fling for a woman in the middle of a midlife crisis, which he refutes in response. He implores her to give Gloria a chance and maybe she will actually do that. It makes sense why Liz would be apprehensive, especially given the protective nature she does have over her brother. He is in some ways pushing himself forward, something that she has wanted for ages. Yet, there’s something different and surprising that can come when that person actually does start to change. Are you really that prepared for it? She is always going to do her best to look after him; she is his sister after all, and she’d probably like to think that he would do the same for her if a new person turns up in her life.
Also in this episode, be prepared to witness the aftermath of Larry’s return to the Lodge … whatever that may be.
