Hawaii Five-0 season 9 premiere: How is Wo Fat appearing?

Hawaii Five-0

Earlier this month, there was some exciting news revealed when it comes to the Hawaii Five-0 season 9 premiere — Wo Fat would be appearing! Given that this character is one of the most-iconic adversaries within the show’s nine seasons on the air, it makes some sense that the series would want to bring him back. That’s especially the case since the September 28 episode is in part a remake of the classic episode “Cocoon,” one that featured Wo Fat in its original incarnation.

Yet, there is a clear elephant in the room when it comes to bringing Wo Fat back around — he’s dead. It’s really hard to figure out the best way to reincorporate a character when they are no longer among the living. This is not The Walking Dead or a show that is suddenly going to be reviving someone who has been gone for a while.

Here’s how things are going to work, according to a report via TVLine the upcoming premiere episode is going to feature McGarrett having visions of Wo Fat while using the sensory deprivation tank popularized in the original series to track down a murder. This time around, the villain is named Kang and is being played by Roger Yuan. Bringing in Wo Fat for this is basically a way to incorporate a little bit of history on the 50th anniversary of the original show, and that is something we appreciate given that Hawaii Five-0 is clearly doing its best to be a series that honors its past while also still finding a way to incorporate some new things, as well. Even while McGarrett deals with the horrors of the tank, this episode is also going to feature Tani having to make some really tough decisions when it comes to the gun she discovered at Adam’s home in the season 8 finale. Read more about that over here.
