This Is Us season 3 promotes Lyric Ross (Deja) to series regular
According to a new report from TVLine, the young actress, who plays the part of Deja on the series, has been officially promoted to series regular. With that, she joins Melanie Liburd (Zoe) in sticking around the series for at least the upcoming third season.
The Deja character first arrived on the show thanks to Randall (Sterling K. Brown) trying to pay things forward after his own positive experience with adoption. While the relationship between his family and Deja had its fair share of ups and downs, eventually the relationship worked out and both Deja, and her biological mother, realizes that Randall and his family was going to be a great place for her to have stability and a real chance at a future. Yet, the final episode of season 2 proved that there is still a little bit of work that needs to be done here.
As for what’s coming up next for Deja, a big part of it probably just has to do with her actually feeling like she has a home and that she doesn’t need to act out — she can just feel comfortable and start to handle her life a little bit more with the feeling of stability. We’re also curious to learn where Deja is in some of the flash-forwards (if she’s there at all) and what her relationship is with some of the other characters. After all, it’s hard to project her future given that her situation is so much different than what Randall’s was with adoption. He was brought up by the Pearsons without ever knowing what his other life would be; for Deja, many of those memories are very much a part of her make up.
