Crime Dynamic Duos: Hawaii Five-0 (Steve / Danny) vs. Wynonna Earp (Wynonna / Nicole)

Crime Dynamic Duos

Welcome to CarterMatt’s Crime Dynamic Duos 2018! This is the third year in which we’re doing this tournament, which is a way to honor some of the best crime-solvers in all of TV. This tournament runs throughout the month of August, and over the course of it we describe what makes certain pairs the perfect crime-fighting duo while also allowing you to share some of your thoughts on the competition! Each article is accompanied with a description and a poll; the winning duo will advance to the next round leading up to the winner being announced on September 1!

What are the rules of the tournament? Basically, all eligible shows have to still be in the midst of their run on TV as of August 1, and at least one character involved needs to be involved in solving crimes in some capacity. They can be a cop, a private investigator, a federal agent, a lawyer or a high-ranking officer. What matters is that they put plenty of bad people away.

Voting Rules – Vote however often you like! Voting for Round 3 is open until Monday, August 27 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time; round 4 will officially kick off on August 25, and at that point, we will have arrived to the final four pairs!

Today, we are officially beginning the final four! This is an exciting showdown between powerhouses that have dominated their way to this point, and today we’ve got Steve and Danny of Hawaii Five-0 set for an epic showdown against Wynonna and Nicole of Wynonna Earp. One one duo will make the final round…

Steve and Danny, Hawaii Five-0 (#1 seed) – This is the second straight year for the two characters in the final four, and they are coming off of a final two appearance in 2017. Much of this placement stems from just the natural fan passion that is out there for the relationship these two guys have — they are a wonderful representation of the modern crime-show genre. They are friends in addition to partners, but they’re not written in the same way as many other crime duos out there. They squabble, they argue, but when the chips are down they care about each other would do anything to make sure the other person is okay. There’s a lot of humor here, but also a ton of hurt.

Wynonna and Nicole, Wynonna Earp (#5 seed) – Wynonna and Nicole are the only remaining underdogs in the tournament, but if you look at their performance to date you probably wouldn’t even call them underdogs. They’ve been fairly dominant almost for the entirety of the month, taking out a number of opponents including a #1 seed in Reddington / Liz from The Blacklist. It does make sense, especially since we’re seeing these two characters get increasingly more screen time together. They’ve developed a good rapport, and they are also the main line of defense for any problems that arrive in Purgatory … and there are plenty of problems.

Your take

Let us know which duo you want to see advance in the comments below! Meanwhile, be sure to like CarterMatt on Facebook to score more news regarding both of these shows!

I can’t see the poll; what do I do? – If you are on mobile, scroll to the bottom of the page and click to view the non-AMP version. If that does not work, give the poll a moment to load! On some mobile browsers, it may take a moment.

How can I vote more than once? – If you are having trouble casting multiple votes, try switching your browser, your device, or visiting the page under private browsing or incognito mode. There should be many handy guides online explaining how to do so if interested.
