Lethal Weapon season 3: Is another popular character going to depart?

Moving into Lethal Weapon season 3, there are of course many mysteries that we’ll see the characters take on. Yet, at the same time there is another big one behind the scenes when it comes to a major character not named Martin Riggs.

Is Jordana Brewster leaving the Fox series before the new season — or at least at some point in the early going? At the moment, there are certainly some suggestions that this is the case. After all, Brewster is not featured in the promotional photo above for the new season — if she was a series regular, more than likely she would be there. It’s possible that she will appear at least in the early going, but that’s the best we can hope for. Given that her character Maureen Cahill shared a lot of screen time with Clayne Crawford, it’s not a particularly-tough character to write out … though we also contend there could have been more ways still to write her into the series further, as well.

Ultimately, though, when characters aren’t featured in cast photos, that is often a pretty clear indication that you’re not going to be seeing someone.

If the series does lose Brewster, this does create yet another obstacle — yet, at the end of the day, much of the show’s future is going to be dependent on just how often we end up seeing Wesley Cole work at the center of the show. The writers have to find a way to make this character work and be appealing to longtime fans of the franchise — and that’s hard given that Riggs is at the center of the entire Lethal Weapon franchise. Yet, it could still be feasible, given that we’ve certainly seen shows survive cast changes before. Suits on USA is a great example of it this summer.

Lethal Weapon season 3 is going to be premiering on Fox this fall, and hopefully we’ll have more news in the weeks ahead.
