The Big Bang Theory season 12: Three spin-off ideas worth discussion

The Big Bang Theory season 11 episode 2

The Big Bang Theory season 12 has already been confirmed as the final season … but does it have to be the last chance for these characters in the present?

We know that the CBS sitcom already has a prequel in Young Sheldon, but we also do think that there is a lot of potential in doing a spin-off out of some of these characters who are already in this universe. This is what this particular article is about! Within this piece we’ve got some suggestions as to other potential shows to do featuring some of these people.

One thing we should note here is that we’re talking here mostly about spin-off featuring characters who are prominent parts of the series — we’re not dipping back into characters who haven’t been around in years or also people who already have other shows. (That’s why there’s no Kripke or Beverly mentioned this list, even if we love John Ross Bowie and Christine Baranski.)

Stuart’s story – This is the spin-off that we’ve been pitching for years now and we stand by it — take the comic-book store owner and give him a show all about his life and whether or not he can start to find his way in the world. Kevin Sussman has always done a great job with this character and we think there’s enough here for a solo show. You could also find a way to bring on Bert if you wanted another recurring character involved. You could keep the series set in Southern California so that the original cast could make cameos, or move him elsewhere a la Frasier to give the show a new feel.

Raj’s future – He’s the one longtime regular who still has a romantic journey to complete, and there are ways that you could have that happen after Burbank. He may be a more bankable option than Stuart since he is so familiar to even the most casual of viewers. We love Kunal Nayyar as a comedic presence and there is something awesome about the idea of a mainstream sitcom led by an actor of South Asian heritage on CBS. (You could combine the Stuart / Raj ideas somehow if you wanted to have both.)

A Howard – Bernadette family sitcom – We know that the writers have been hesitant to feature their babies on the show, but we think there could be some appeal in aging up the characters a few years and then doing a classic family sitcom featuring the two and their kids. It’s a known formula for CBS, but they would have some reliable actors at the center of it.
