The Walking Dead season 9 spoilers: Meet Alpha’s daughter Lydia

If you’ve been following along some of the casting reports that are already out there when it comes to The Walking Dead season 9, you may know about Alpha. Samantha Morton is playing the character, who is both the head of the Whisperers who may also serve as some of the Big Bads for this season.

Now, we have a chance to meet Alpha’s daughter Lydia. Cassady McClincy of Love, Simon has officially signed on the series in this aforementioned recurring role, and one of the big things we’re curious about now is how the series will use Lydia. In the comics, she and Carl Grimes have a romantic connection … but that’s not exactly possible at this point. In some ways, Carl and Lydia were the Romeo and Juliet of that story, and now the show is going to have to figure out something different. (Basically, we’re rolling our eyes some more about the decision to write out Chandler Riggs from the story.)

The Walking Dead is going to be introducing many a new character in season 9, with one of the clear intentions here being their attempts to really reset the series and try to move forward knowing that the exit of Andrew Lincoln as Rick is right around the corner. That is not going to be an easy thing for many people to handle, but the unfortunate reality here is that there’s more bad news after that — after all, Lauren Cohan (Maggie) is also going to have a reduced role in some capacity, though there is no guarantee that her exit this season will be a permanent one. (It definitely seems like that is going to be the case with Rick.)
