Madam Secretary season 5 episode 1 spoilers: More on Hillary Clinton appearance

Madam Secretary

As you may have heard before now, Madam Secretary season 5 episode 1 is going to be a particularly enormous hour of television. It’s not often that you get former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on your show, let alone two others in Madeleine Albright and Colin Powell. This is a huge episode for the show, and the challenge for the producers of course here is to create a story that is equally as significant as what is being hyped up here.

Based on some of the early details that we’ve got about this episode, signs do point to it living up to it. The Madam Secretary season 5 episode 1 synopsis has more:

E Pluribus Unum” – In the aftermath of a deadly attack on the White House, Elizabeth tries to keep a major nuclear disarmament deal from falling apart while a manhunt for the attackers brings D.C. to a halt. For advice, Elizabeth turns to former secretaries of state (guest starring as themselves) Madeleine Albright, Hillary Clinton and Colin Powell, on the fifth season premiere of MADAM SECRETARY, Sunday, Oct. 7 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

This episode seems to be following up in some way the denuclearization attempts by Elizabeth at the end of last season, which is one of the reasons why she is interested in running for President now. She sees this as one of the best possible scenarios in which the entire world stays safe; she knows that she has to be one of the people to see things through.

Yet, despite all of the Presidency talk, it’s clear from the guest stars that the first episode is going to be very much about the position of Secretary of State more than anything else.
