Let’s just kick things off first and foremost by answering the question in the title: Alas, there is no new episode tonight. ABC is pushing an episode back in order to make way for a special tonight all about the Royals, and they’re going to do their best to make up for it next week by giving you two episodes airing back to back. Those episodes are going to serve as a great opportunity to get to know Sam and Eddie better as we gear up for the end of this season.

We do think that the writers have a very specific challenge as we push forward to what is coming up on the series next — they have to balance out the professional and personal relationships of Sam and Eddie. While it’s understandable to want them together given the chemistry that they have, do they want to push that this season or hope for a season 2 down the road to build this up even further for a better pay off? It’s a delicate thing to figure out since you want there to be some buildup; however, at the same time they don’t know if there is going to be an opportunity to explore this more down the road.

Over the next few episodes of the season, we imagine that these questions will be further examined … but there will also be a number of other fun things happening along the way. You’re going to get a chance to see some more interesting, at-times crazy cases for Sam and Eddie that make them question not only their skill set, but also even the rules of science. That will especially play a role in one of the two episodes airing next week.
