America’s Got Talent: Should The Sacred Riana be wild card?

The Sacred Riana

Tonight, America’s Got Talent delivered its latest results, and we’re still somewhat shocked over the Sacred Riana’s elimination.

Or … are we? We don’t think that it has too much to do with her being on another show already or the production being a little bit weird last night — even if the cut to commercials was super-sudden and confusing. We think that it mostly just has to do with Americans like things that they are comfortable with. The average AGT voter through the years has been known to default on singers whenever given the opportunity to do so, and with last night being so uneven, that is precisely what happened. Many singers, who were at least decent, got in over some variety acts who stumbled.

While we do love Riana and don’t mind the whole “scary” part of it (which is probably what turned off most family viewers), we think that last night wasn’t her best performance. There wasn’t enough magic in the act and the end of it, while creepy, wasn’t really a traditional magic reveal. We think she probably should have found a way to combine her style with a little more magic skill, but we’re not entirely sure that voters would have picked her anyway.

So, is there a chance that Riana could be a wild card down the road? We do think that it’s a pretty strong possibility, given that she not only is talented, but she is a big sell to the show’s social channels. She brings in a ton of traffic to AGT and its social channels, in part because of her popularity all over the world.

We do at least know this: With there being 21 acts being put through via results shows, we’re pretty confident that there will be anywhere between one and three wild cards. We’ll see precisely what happens on the other side of next week.
