Siren season 2 premiering January 2019; Freeform promises more mermaids

Siren - Freeform

For everyone out there eager to see Siren season 2, the good news is that you won’t be waiting as long as you may have thought!

Today, Freeform confirmed that the second season (or at least the first half of it) is going to be coming in January. The teaser that we have for you below also makes it clear that there are more mermaids coming … which shouldn’t really be all that big of a surprise. Given that there is a larger episode count coming for season 2 and there’s so much more mythology to explore, bringing in more mermaids is one of the ways in which to do that. We also know, from our interview with Rena Owen, that this is something that she was hoping to see.

Siren is entering season 2 with a different sort of expectation than what it had for the first season. At that point, this show was a total toss-up in the sense that nobody really knew whether or not it was going to be a hit. Now, there is a little more confidence around it and the question becomes whether or not it can live up to the hype of just how good the first season was. We are fairly confident that the second season is going to find a way to keep the story going just as strong especially since season 1 left our characters in such disarray. Maddie and Ben aren’t doing well and Ryn has decided to leave Ben as well consumed with the guilt she feels over all the trouble she has brought to his life.

Beyond the story that you’re going to get moving into season 2, we’re also just hoping that there will be a chance to see more of how the writers cultivate their message about the environment and over fishing the oceans, something that is critical to the world and the future. There aren’t a lot of other shows willing to take this on as a subject matter, but in a world where there is so much constantly going on and so many distractions, this is a perfect time to get a reminder on it. We have even seen the cast all taking on the initiative to give back this summer and have been posting videos of their volunteer efforts. This show isn’t just pushing the message of making a difference, the cast has been out there putting in the time to make it happen.
