Crime Dynamic Duos: NCIS: Los Angeles (Deeks / Kensi) vs. 9-1-1 (Athena / Bobby)

Welcome to CarterMatt’s Crime Dynamic Duos 2018! This is the third year in which we’re doing this tournament, which is a way to honor some of the best crime-solvers in all of TV. This tournament runs throughout the month of August, and over the course of it we describe what makes certain pairs the perfect crime-fighting duo while also allowing you to share some of your thoughts on the competition! Each article is accompanied with a description and a poll; the winning duo will advance to the next round leading up to the winner being announced on September 1!

What are the rules of the tournament? Basically, all eligible shows have to still be in the midst of their run on TV as of August 1, and at least one character involved needs to be involved in solving crimes in some capacity. They can be a cop, a private investigator, a federal agent, a lawyer or a high-ranking officer. What matters is that they put plenty of bad people away.

Voting Rules – Vote however often you like! Voting for Round 2 is open until Sunday, August 19 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time; round 3 will kick off the following day. The image at the top of the article should explain everything.

Today, we’ve got another round 2 showdown between an established crime-fighting couple and a police officer / firefighter duo who seem to be growing closer moving into season 2. Will Deeks and Kensi of NCIS: Los Angeles overtake Athena and Bobby of 9-1-1? We’re about to find out.

Deeks and Kensi, NCIS: Los Angeles (#1 seed) – Densi is coming off of probably the biggest blowout of the entire first round, as they completely throttled Dylan and Lizzie of Instinct. Can they do the same thing this time around? We do know that these two have one of the most passionate followings out there and with that, we’re sure that there are going to be many people eager to keep supporting them. We especially feel the love for Densi is strong right now given their uncertain status entering season 10. Deeks’ life is especially in jeopardy in the premiere episode; hopefully, Kensi and the other characters are going to be able to help him.

Athena and Bobby, 9-1-1 (#4 seed) – This is the first year that the two characters have taken part in the tournament, but we cannot say that we’re surprised they won their round 1 showdown against Aram and Samar of The Blacklist. Watching their development over the course of the first season was wonderful, mostly because the writers took their time before building towards the big movement for them in the finale. While they aren’t traditional partners, in season 2 we certainly expect them together both on and off the job in various forms. Police officers and firefighters, after all, have plenty of reasons to collaborate.
