NCIS: Los Angeles season 10 spoilers: Who’s alive in the premiere?
According to TVLine, the following is the official CBS synopsis for this first episode, which is entitled “To Live and Die in Mexico” and is airing on September 30:
“Gravely injured and unable to communicate with the team in the U.S., Callen, Sam and Kensi, with an unconscious Deeks in tow, search for a safe way home as the Mexican Cartel places a “dead or alive” bounty on their heads.”
As we explain in the video below (subscribe for more updates, and be sure to check out our NCIS: Los Angeles playlist), the good news that we get from reading this is that Chris O’Donnell, LL Cool J, Eric Christian Olsen, and Daniela Ruah are all clearly featured in the story. Often if an actor leaves a show, they leave right from the jump and don’t return for any episodes. That’s especially the case if they are doing this due to negotiations breaking down over a new contract. Occasionally you do get someone who comes back to wrap up their story — Cote de Pablo on NCIS is a great example of that, but it only happens here and there.
So, for now, we’re left feeling reasonably hopeful that all of these characters are going to find a way to survive in the long term — yet, if Deeks is unconscious at the start of the episode, it is reasonable to think that this is a situation that he is going to be struggling to recover from for quite some time to come. If that’s the case, we do hope that the writers really spend some good time diving into some of this so we get a chance to really experience the journey with him.

Matt, when Deeks was fired not one of his co-workers spoke out on his behalf or fought for him. Under those circumstances how could he return? He had their backs over the course of eight years. When he was defenseless against Mosely, no one had his back, not even his fiancee! As a civilian employee of the U.S. Navy, Mosely committed an illegal act by torturing the prisoner, and all the them committed illegal acts by failing to report it. Will there be any consequences? The show needs to address these matters.

Callen had Deeks back at the very beginning of the season. That scene was idiotic: Deeks had been trying to remain “under the radar” the entire season and once Callen got Deeks back on the team, Mosley was no more harsh on him than on any other agent. In fact, it was Callen who was always butting heads with Mosley. Callen doesn’t need anyone to defend him, but if he did, it should have been Sam, not Deeks. Military seems to have a real fascination on Deeks and Sam because they’re always “super” heroic and macho in his stories–to the point of being ridiculous (no anesthesia, really?). As for Mosley committing an illegal act, she did. So did Deeks when he killed his partner–and Mosley was trying to rescue her son; Deeks was protecting a prostitute, not a family member. He shouldn’t be making moral comments about anyone.
