Hawaii Five-0 season 9: Chi McBride writing Thanksgiving episode

It looks as though another actor within the Hawaii Five-0 world is getting involved with some other aspects of production.

Last year, series star Alex O’Loughlin not only directed an episode, but had a Story By credit for another. This year, we’ve learned that Chi McBride has penned an upcoming episode himself! Speaking to TVLine, executive producer Peter M. Lenkov notes that McBride turned in a “great” script for the upcoming episode. There aren’t many details out there as to what the story for this will be, but we’re certainly excited to find out!

In general, we are seeing more and more actors (especially on CBS shows) having a chance to get into the world of directing, and writing. Why is that? A big part of it is finding some additional ways to find creative fulfillment since you always want to push yourself. Beyond just that, the producers and studios tend to do an excellent job at allowing their actors to try new things. They show confidence in them and, in turn, they create great products. We know that they are immensely talented; with McBride in particular, a great example of his skill can be found back in what he did in the episode about Grover’s suicide contemplation earlier this year.

New episodes of Hawaii Five-0 will premiere on CBS this fall, and for those who missed it, the premiere is meant to be an homage to the classic Hawaii Five-0 episode “Cocoon.” Beyond just that, we know that O’Loughlin is going to be directing on the series again at some point, and the 200th episode coming up will serve as a great opportunity to celebrate everything that we’ve had a chance to see on the series to date. There aren’t too many details out there yet but we do have a video on everything we do know for you below!
