Law & Order: SVU season 20 spoilers: Callie Thorne returning

For those of you who like having the Nikki Staines character on Law & Order: SVU we have some good news for you — she’s coming back for at least one episode in season 20.

In a new post on Twitter actress Callie Thorne (Can we just say how much we still miss Necessary Roughness, her show on USA?) made it clear that she was back on the set for an upcoming season 20 episode. What’s really interesting about Thorne’s arc on SVU is that she was first on the show a good 15 years ago with the 2003 episode “Choice.” She did another episode in 2004, but then was gone for more than a decade before coming back as the Nikki character. What’s also interesting about this is that for many people with sizable breaks within the Law & Order franchise, they tend to come back as a totally different character. That’s not the case here.

Nikki Staines is a prominent defense attorney, and with that she could be a fierce opponent for Philip Winchester’s Peter Stone in the upcoming season of the series. We know (through executive producer Julie Martin’s tweet) that she will be appearing in an episode entitled “Revenge.” While you could easily argue that this episode speaks for itself when it comes to its story, we don’t want to make any bold proclamations since SVU is great with giving us episode titles that can go in many different directions.

We hope that Thorne’s appearance is a part of a trend in season 20 where we get opportunities to see a number of familiar faces, whether they be defense attorneys to detectives to judges, from the past several seasons of the series. With this being such a milestone year for the series, we certainly are hoping that there are opportunities to see many other familiar faces coming up.

What do you want to see on this particular Law & Order: SVU episode, and are you excited to have Callie Thorne back? Be sure to share right now in the attached comments!
