Take Two: Should Sam and Eddie get together by season 1 finale?
At the moment, we do think that the ABC series is in the midst of a pretty interesting dilemma. Are all of us meant to root for these characters to get together? I absolutely think so, as we’ve seen most of the series so far build towards something happening with these two characters. It’s clear already that there are some feelings there and that really just leads into another question: How are these feelings going to be manifested over the finale weeks of the season?
I do think that there’s something valuable in giving these two characters a romantic moment by the end of the season, mostly in that it would at least satisfy a number of the people who are out there ‘shipping the two together … while at the same time also giving the series a semi-satisfying conclusion in the event that it does not come back for more. (The only reason we call this semi-satisfying is because we do still want to see more of this series, if at all possible. That’s the real satisfaction here.) If Take Two is renewed, you can still slow down the pace of the relationship and not actually get Sam and Eddie together right away. Personally, I see the two kissing as a commitment to telling that story, even if it takes a little while to get them to where they are actually together. That’s why it seems like some sort of moment at the end of the season is best.
The good thing about Sam and Eddie as a couple is that even if they do get together, it still feels like there are a number of super-fun stories that can be told. Take, for example, seeing what Eddie is like being around the Hollywood community — what if Sam takes him to a party with some of her peers and it turns out one of his idols is there? Sometimes you worry that getting a pair of characters together limits the story possibilities but in this case, it’s hard to imagine that being the case.
