Grey’s Anatomy season 15: Kevin McKidd directing again!

Grey's Anatomy season 13 episode 23 review

Grey’s Anatomy season 15 is premiering this fall, and for those of you who love Kevin McKidd-directed episodes, great news! He’ll be stepping into that position pretty early on in the season.

McKidd, along with executive producer Debbie Allen, are two of the most well-known regular directors on the series. This upcoming season 15 stint for McKidd will mark the 21st time that he’s directed on the show! Add that to the more than 200 episodes that he’s appeared as Owen Hunt on the show, it’s pretty clear that he is an integral cog behind the scenes. He’s been so important to the series that it’s almost easy to forget that he wasn’t a part of the series until the start of the fifth season.

Moving forward into the fall, it’s certainly clear that there is a meaty storyline established for Owen. After all, this is a character who has some important discussions coming his way with Teddy — she’s pregnant, and he’s been on the road to having a new family with Amelia. Kim Raver is now a series regular, and with that, it’s pretty clear that she is not going anywhere in the near future. We do think it’s easy to label all of this a “love triangle,” but we also don’t think that really does the situation all that much justice. We already saw while Teddy didn’t want to be with Owen last season, and we don’t think that the present situation should change something since they can always co-parent as mature adults and still have a good relationship. Still, there are different questions and issues that the characters are going to have to deal with.

All in all, it does feel like we’re gearing up for one of the best seasons for Owen in some time — having Kevin direct an early episode is just the icing on the cake.
