Outlander notes: Tobias Menzies, Richard Rankin, Sophie Skelton, & convention fun
For the sake of today’s article, we want to point out at least a few fun highlights via the Highlanders convention, mostly because it seemed as though the cast had a great time getting together. If you’re an Instagram user, be sure to check out some of Lauren Lyle’s Instagram Stories — there have been really fun things shared over there featuring herself, Richard Rankin, David Berry, and others. Richard and Sophie Skelton had a panel today, one in which they joked about their relationship, doing their screen test together, and a wide array of other fun topics.

Meanwhile, Tobias Menzies also stopped by for a discussion and took a number of different questions — he’s busy filming The Crown, so he certainly does bear more of a resemblance to Prince Philip these days. He said that he hasn’t met Philip yet and doesn’t even know what that experience would be like. You could also apparently get the sense from him in the room that he was super-grateful for the chance to work on that show and really wants to do the material justice. Of course, he also did discuss playing Black Jack Randall and Frank Randall on Outlander — even though the two characters are dead, you never quite know when they are going to turn up in the future.
There are of course many other convention staples happening today, as well, including autograph signings and also photo opportunities with many of the cast members. There’s a fun Twitter image search to be had if you want to check some of those out!
Other conventions to be aware of
The aforementioned New Jersey convention starts on August 17; if you head over here, you can check out tickets now! If you’re looking for a different sort of convention experience, the Sasnak City convention is coming in November back to Kansas City! It’s a smaller, more intimate convention experience and as of right now, Berry, Rankin, Steven Cree, and Graham McTavish are listed as attendees.
