Even though Supergirl season 4 filming has been going on for a little while now, it was only today that Melissa Benoist officially arrived on set!
Recently, Benoist posted on Instagram (see below) that she was heading back in order to play her role of Kara Zor-El once more following her run on Broadway. Based on some Instagram Stories from the set, she is officially back now — and also in the cape! She’s hitting the ground running and there are likely going to be some very busy days ahead for her.
The only reason that Supergirl was able to film for a little while without its signature star is for one major reason: Creative schedule. The producers were able to figure out a way in which to keep production going for many of their other characters while waiting for Melissa to return to work. We know that this is going to be an interesting, very-different season that is all about finding acceptance in what is a very different world in the aftermath of Reign’s departure. It feels more like the conflicts are internal this time — rather than having to take on a ton of new evil aliens, some of the biggest threats could be from within as the there are humans, including Agent Liberty, who want nothing more than the eradication of aliens from the Earth. This is also poised to be a big season for Kara Danvers the reporter, as the writers are intent to expand on that story more.
Of course, we also have a new arrival in Nia Nal a.k.a. Dreamer, who will be played by Nicole Maines on the series.
