Grey’s Anatomy season 15 spoilers: Meredith’s story as a mother to be focus

Grey's Anatomy season 14

When Grey’s Anatomy season 15 premieres on ABC this fall, we’ve got a reasonably good sense of what’s coming for Meredith. While her status as a doctor at the Grey Sloan Memorial will still be an integral part of the series, the same goes for what she is doing away from the job as a mother. It’s not going to be about another love interest coming into the fold — which may help to feed into why we are not seemingly getting too much more of Scott Speedman as Nick Marsh right now. While we would love to see it, there seem to be other priorities on the show itself.

So what is the show looking at instead? Well, the title for this piece gives that away, and ABC programming head Channing Dungey made it clear (via TVLine) that Meredith’s status as a mother will be a big part of what lies ahead from here on out:

“Meredith [is going to] have a new trajectory that is more focused on who she is as a single mother … Ellen has spoken very loudly about how she doesn’t want all of Meredith’s adventures to be romantic ones.”

Dungey’s comments seem to be a reflection of some of Pompeo’s comments in regards to Nathan Riggs being established as a potential love interest so soon after the series ended up killing off Derek. We do think that there is a chance for another one down the road, but the thing to remember with this show more than any other is that there’s likely going to be at least one more year beyond this one — ABC has not ordered a season 16, but we know that Ellen has a two-year deal at the moment. There’s time to address Meredith’s romantic future, provided of course that is something that is really in the cards for her. It may not be, but either way, we have to think the writers are moving in the direction that makes the most sense for them.
