America’s Got Talent video: Troy James returns for Judge Cuts performance

America's Got Talent

Tuesday night marks the final America’s Got Talent Judge Cuts episode of the season, and with that in mind, we’ve got a video below featuring one particularly notable act in Troy James!

In the video below (via Entertainment Tonight), you get a pretty good sense as to precisely what Troy is bringing to the table … and also at the same time how he’s looking to spook guest judge Chris Hardwick with some of his contortionist skills. What we like about Troy is that he has this sort of comic-book quality to him where his dancer / contortionist self is almost an alter ego from his everyday safe, who seems to be rather quiet and mild-mannered. He is very good at what he does and we don’t tend to see too many contortionists go in this sort of horror direction with their act.

Yet, now that we’ve said this, we do still have to wonder whether or not this is going to be perceived as enough to move him forward, mostly because this is a similar motif and style to his first performance. We do think that dancers / contortionists / other variety acts are held to a different standard than some singers or dancers in that they’re expected to completely remake their act every single time. To us, he’s at least a candidate to advance, and we do think that he does do something slightly different in bringing Hardwick up on the stage before doing some of his super-creepy body-shifting. Chris is a willing participant, while Mel B screams at the judges’ table, which is a reminder yet again that Mel is easily scared on this show. (Remember last week with the Sacred Riana? We haven’t forgotten.
