Batman won’t be joining Batwoman, The Flash, or Supergirl anytime soon

It is fairly well-known at this point that Batwoman is joining Arrow, The Flashand Supergirl for an upcoming crossover event later this year. (Legends of Tomorrow isn’t going to be a part of it this year, which is fine since they can go be awesome on their own.) Yet, what does this mean in terms of Batman and the Arrowverse?

We don’t think that it’s altogether strange to ask this question at this point, given that Gotham is ending and with that, a certain Dark Knight isn’t really being used by any major live-action television property. Yet, at the same time we’re also aware that DC Comics is extremely protective of how much Batman ends up on the small screen at all — they’ve been really hesitant, for example, about allowing Gotham to say either the word “Batman” or “The Joker” in their episodes.

It’s probably with this in mind (blame their desire to save the character for some of their film franchises) that The CW isn’t going to be bringing Batman to their world in the near future, either. Mark Pedowitz confirmed at the network’s TCA Summer Press Tour today that while Batwoman will be based out of Gotham, there are no plans at the moment to have Batman appear in the future.

As of right now, the network is still looking for a lesbian actress to play the character of Kate Kane and her famous alter-ego — this is someone who could eventually have her own series on The CW moving forward, so they want to take all the time that they possibly can in order to get the casting right. That’s been a big reason for some of the success of their other shows — though we do also wonder as to how The CW is going to manage having six (!) superhero shows on the air at once. Our feeling is that they will probably reduce the episode orders of some of them so that they can rotate out shows during various parts of the year.
