Should LeVar Burton, other Star Trek alum join Sir Patrick Stewart series?

Earlier today, there’s a good chance you heard the glorious news: Sir Patrick Stewart is reviving Jean-Luc Picard! The venue is an upcoming CBS All Access series that is going to give you an opportunity to explore the future of the character beyond Star Trek: The Next Generation, and with a character like Picard, you know that there are likely countless adventures that a guy like him can go. He’s a character who will offer a smart, intelligent view on the world around him, and he also just so happens to be a character so many out there take great inspiration from.

With all of this said, all indications suggest that this new series is not just a revival of The Next Generation; with that, there is no guarantee as to who else could end up appearing. There are certainly plenty of contenders in between Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Gates McFadden, and so many others. Yet, we’ll admit that LeVar Burton was probably our personal favorite cast members, largely because as someone who born severely nearsighted and dealt with being labeled as legally blind, Geordi was the sort of character you didn’t see all the time when the show was first on the air. He portrayed someone with limited to no eyesight as an intelligent, courageous hero and not just a punching bag or someone who was predictable week after week. He was inspiring, and the fact that Burton also hosted Reading Rainbow made him all the more appealing growing up.

We certainly think that there haven’t been too many characters quite like Geordi since The Next Generation went off the air, and we still think that there are lessons that can be taught through him to millions of young people out there. Also, doesn’t Picard want to see some old friends again at some point?

Admittedly, it’s probably going to be a long time before this series comes on the air, and at this time no firm decisions have been made. We just hope that this new series, in some form, offers up a chance to see familiar faces again.
