Quantico season 4: Why was it canceled; is renewal possible elsewhere?

Moving into tonight’s series finale, let’s raise a couple of different questions within this article when it comes to Quantico.

Why was the show canceled? – It feels right to kick things off with this, mostly because this is probably the #1 question that we see being raised following the series finale. The end of Quantico, sad as it is, seems to be largely a function of the same thing that doom many other shows: Its ratings performance in the United States. It’s not an extremely-cheap show to make, and with that it needs to perform fairly well to have a shot at coming back for more. While it does perform well via DVRs and has a bankable international star in Priyanka Chopra, these factors are only going so far in keeping the series on the air.

Is a renewal possible elsewhere? – While you never want to rule anything out 100%, it doesn’t appear so. For starters, ABC has more incentive to keep the show than anyone given that this is an in-house production. Because of that, other networks would have to license it and that doesn’t come all too cheap. While it would certainly bring big ratings to many cable networks if they were interested, odds are that they aren’t able to afford the cost. We don’t see anything happening here, so let’s just hope there is an adequate sense of closure that comes out of the finale.

We’ll let you know if any more news comes out, but for now, we’ll leave you now with this: Quantico has at least done a good job of keeping its ratings steady since moving to Friday. A 0.5 / 0.4 rating isn’t going to get you renewed, but it shows there is a loyal following here.
