For everyone wondering about the Last Ship season 5 premiere date, there’s no more reason to wonder: We know it now courtesy of TNT!
The series, which stars Eric Dane, Jocko Sims, Bridget Regan, and many others, is going to finally return on Sunday, September 9 to kick off what is its final season. It’s ironic in a way that we waited for so many months, wondering where the announcement was, to end up learning that this is precisely what we anticipated for the show all along. It’s sticking around in the same sort of timeslot that it had last year, with the main difference being that it’s premiering a little bit later in the year.
As for what we think of the premiere date, the good news this year is that the show’s not airing opposite Game of Thrones. However, the bad news here is that this is still a tough timeslot given that you are competing against the NFL and, eventually, much of the fall season on other networks. In the end, it’s true that The Last Ship doesn’t have to worry all that much about ratings given that this is the end of the road. Yet, we do still want to see the series close things out with as good of a conclusion as humanly possible. We want to see it end on a high note.
The teaser that CarterMatt has for you below gives you a good sense as to what the Nathan James crew is going to be squaring off against for its final run, and it includes new threats and dangers that are indicated in the attached synopsis:
This season, the world is finally recovering from the deadly virus that devastated the population, but global political unrest remains. Tom Chandler (Dane) has retired and his former crew has scattered, many having risen in the ranks within the Navy. Sasha Cooper (Regan), Lieutenant Danny Green (Travis Van Winkle), SBS WO-N Wolf Taylor (Bren Foster) and Sergeant Azima Kandie (Jodie Turner Smith) are on a covert mission in Panama. When they are wrongly blamed for an attack on the Panamanian president, the consequences for the United States are dire. The Nathan James must fight to prevent invasion by Latin America — and the next world war. Season five is The Last Ship at its most epic, upping the ante on action and excitement, but at its core, it underscores the costs of prolonged war and the toll it takes on the heroes who fight it.
