Gilmore Girls season 9 not in discussions at present at Netflix

Gilmore girls season 9

Is a Gilmore Girls season 9 possible at Netflix moving into the future? It’s certainly fair to want more…

Unfortunately, it does not appear as though that is something that is happening at any point in the near future. While at TCA today promoting much of their upcoming lineup, Netflix’s vice president of original content Cindy Holland said (per TVLine) that while everyone remains a big fan of the Gilmore Girls property, at the moment there aren’t many plans to bring the series back in the immediate future.

Is this understandable? Certainly, mostly for scheduling reasons. Alexis Biedel, for starters, has been extremely busy over on The Handmaid’s Tale. Meanwhile, Amy Sherman-Palladino has been busy getting all sorts of recognition for her new series over at Amazon in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

In theory, it is certainly possible that Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life (otherwise known as season 8) could end up being the end of the road for the show. At one point, we didn’t even expect that we would be getting that and it feels like a gift to have as much of the story as we have.

Yet, we also do not anticipate talk around a Gilmore Girls season 9 to go away anytime soon. We do think it’s possible that this will be revisited a year from now — as a matter of fact, we would be more than happy if it did! We do want to see things happen again with the show, but in due time and when the entire cast and crew is ready to dive back into the series. There’s no point to rush something along that is of the highest quality; if there is a good idea and everyone is on board for it, we’ll have a chance to look at things again then.
