Arrested Development season 6 may not happen, at least not soon
While at TCA this weekend performing a wide array of different series, the company’s vice president of original content Cindy Holland had the following to say (per TVLine):
“I actually don’t know if [Season 6] is a possibility or not … We haven’t discussed it at all.”
This comment comes within the midst of a lot of different controversy for the show, especially when it comes to one of its cast members in Jeffrey Tambor. Another series in Transparent parted ways with him amidst allegations of misconduct, and over the promotional campaign for season 5 it came out that he was verbally abusive to his co-star Jessica Walter during production. Many of his fellow co-stars were heavily criticized for their own reaction to it, in particular during an interview where it felt as though they were sweeping some of what happened under the rug.
All of this controversy has in many ways overshadowed the fifth season of what was once considered to be one of the greatest comedy series of the past couple of decades. The critical reception to season 5 has also not been what it was in prior years.
Ultimately, we’re not sure if there will be more or if there even should be more. Much of that may have to do with the end of season 5 coupled if there is a way to move the series past much of that it’s been through already. The distaste for Tambor makes it difficult to imagine the series will still continue to be appealing if he is a part of it.
The final episodes of Arrested Development season 5 are slated to premiere a little bit later this year.
