McMafia season 2 confirmed at AMC; new Robbie Amell, Matthew Weiner series (Quick Hits)

McMafia episode 2

Thanks in part to TCA generating a number of headlines this weekend, we are back with a rare Saturday edition of Quick Hits to break down the latest headlines!

Let’s kick things off with news that is (finally) confirmed: McMafia season 2 is officially coming to AMC. While the order was officially made earlier this year in the UK, we had not gotten official word until just now that the James Norton series will be back. While it wasn’t perfect, Norton’s performance was phenomenal and the home stretched showed some of its true potential. We’re excited to see more of what happens over the course of the stories to come.

As for some other great news…

Robbie Amell heads to Amazon – The former The Flash and The Tomorrow People star is set to star in the upcoming Amazon science-fiction / comedy hybrid Upload, one that is coming from executive producers Greg Daniels and Howard Klein. These guys worked on The Office, so there’s a lot to be excited about here.

Basically, the premise of the series is this: The show is set around the concept of people choosing to be uploaded into their own perfect afterlife close to their death. We don’t want to share too much about the specific story until we know for sure how the concept works, but Amell will be starring alongside Pitch Perfect 3 actress Andy Allo.

The Romanoffs teaser – It goes without saying that there’s a lot to be expected out of this show, mostly because it is a product of former Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner. Yet, there isn’t too much in the way of footage in the just-released official teaser below! Instead, what you basically have is a recounting of the incredible cast at the heart of this series, which is meant to be an anthology. The show revolves around eight different stories about people who think they are descendants of the Russian Royal Family. It was filmed all over the world, which means that its scale could be so ambitious and different from any other series out there.

The Romanoffs launches on October 12.
