Lauren Cohan could return in The Walking Dead season 10

For anyone wondering how Lauren Cohan could exit The Walking Dead, it doesn’t seem like there are plans to kill Maggie off. Instead, it feels like the show is leaving the door open for there to be a possible return in a potential season 10 or some other time down the line.

Speaking via Entertainment Weekly, Cohan proclaimed that Maggie’s story is “open-ended,” which means that there is going to be a chance to revisit her story in some other way down the line. We’re all for that, largely because  she’s such a great character and we have been heavily invested in her journey for years . It would be rather nice to continue to see at least some of the long term cast members stick around since we just lost Carl and we are losing Rick too. We’ve had a hard time becoming attached to some of the newer characters since over time we have learned that they are expendable and usually end up dead.

Is it possible that Cohan’s comments are a fake-out? Maybe in theory, but we like to think that it’s not and what she is saying here is what we are going to get. Given where Maggie is right now and her status leading that particular community, there is actually an argument that you can make for why you wouldn’t see her for a while. She could just be off doing some other things. It’s a little bit different than Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, where it’s harder to write him out without something terrible happening to that character. For us this has always been Rick and his family’s story.

Also, the reasons for Lincoln and Cohan departing are a little different. Andrew wants to spend more time with his family in UK, while Lauren’s schedule is limited more due to her role on Whiskey Cavalier. We imagine that the success of this new show over on ABC is going to play a pretty important factor in whether or not we see a lot of her moving forward on The Walking Dead.
