Blue Bloods season 9: Eddie’s sticking around the family dinner table!

For anyone wondering if Eddie Janko being at the Blue Bloods family dinner table was just a one-time thing (at least for now), we come bearing great news!

In a new post on Instagram via star Donnie Wahlberg, he makes it clear that Vanessa Ray will be a part of at least one more family-dinner scene early on in the new season. He makes it sound like it’ll be a regular occurrence and, despite whether or not Eddie and Jamie are married in the early going, we’re inclined to believe him.

Blue Bloods doesn’t take changes to the family-dinner table lightly. They aren’t the sort of show that will just feature Eddie one time and then take her away from the family moving forward. When the writers made the shift at the end of season 8 with her sitting down with Jamie, they likely knew that they were going all-in with this since this show is primarily about family. Weekly family dinners aren’t as common as they used to be once younger family members leave the nest and that’s a big part of what makes this show so special – it brings a wonderful tradition into a modern world.

For those of you who love seeing Eddie as much as possible, this is great news! Even though there are episodes of the show where Jamie and Eddie don’t have big storylines, in the past we’ve still seen Jamie at the dinner table. Hopefully she’ll join him now and be a part of every episode.

Obviously, we’re all for seeing Eddie at the family dinner table. There’s something hugely symbolic about it, and that is the welcoming of her into the family with open arms. The Reagans are a tight-knit family and they’re protective of each other; that’s a big part of what makes the series so popular and relatable for real families out there. You have this aspirational quality to the show where  you want to be able to sit around and have discussions with your own family — even if you don’t agree all the time. There’s something validating and even emotional about Eddie being there after how long we’ve seen her and Jamie work together.
