Yellowstone renewed for season 2 by Paramount Network
Today, the Paramount Network confirmed via Twitter (which you can check out below) the news that so many people out there more than likely saw coming. The first season of the show (at least so far) has proven to be an unparalleled success for the network. It got off to a tremendous start and, when factoring in DVR numbers, it has shown itself to be ad-supported cable’s #2 scripted show behind The Walking Dead. Its viewer figures are very impressive, and we feel like this speaks towards both the star power of Kevin Costner as well as the appeal of both the setting and the genre.
Fundamentally, there are not too many other series out there at the moment quite like Yellowstone and we know that this is something that is very much appealing to viewers. There are so many different programming options out there, but there are not as many that are as unique. It also has multi-generational appeal in that Westerns are somewhat nostalgic by trade, and older viewers may be able to leverage some of their memories of the genre to convince younger viewers to watch.
As for when the second season is going to premiere, the network isn’t saying anything other than “2019.” More than likely it won’t be before next summer; we just hope that with this renewal being announced early enough, this is going to give the cast and crew enough time to get more episodes together that they can continue to air it in the same spot.
Beyond all of this, the other question that we wonder moving forward is how the Paramount Network can continue to leverage some of the success that they have here so that they can carry that over to some other shows. They’re really trying to expand on some of their scripted content, but at the moment none of their programming has really come anywhere close to performing like Yellowstone has.
