The Bachelorette finale spoilers: Will Blake Horstmann, Garrett Yrigoyen win?

Garrett Yrigoyen's alleged Instagram history

The Bachelorette finale is going to be airing on ABC and with that we have to ask: Is Blake Horstmann or Garrett Yrigoyen going to “win” the show?

What we do think is kind of interesting about the present state of the franchise is that even when you think you know what’s going to happen, in reality you really don’t. There is still potential to be some sort of flux when it comes to what happens, even if there are some spoilers out there already suggesting a certain contestant will win. What happens after the final rose is not necessarily permanent.

In general, there are some interesting narratives going into this finale that will likely be explored for weeks depending on what happens. For example, if Blake wins, that completely upends the search for the next Bachelor. We know that there’s going to be a strong case for Jason (especially after the way he is eliminated tonight); it’s really a two-person race since Garrett is not getting the role in a million years.

If Garrett wins, meanwhile, that means Becca Kufrin is going to be stuck having to answer questions about his past social-media behavior for a good long while. It’s been many weeks now since his pattern of liking xenophobic and transphobic remarks was first exposed on Instagram, but it’s still one of the first things that comes up if you search his name. Even if he has evolved and learned something as a person (which he has claimed), this controversy is not going away.

This season has been a strange one — the past actions of contestants have tainted some of the enjoyment and save for maybe Jordan, there weren’t too many huge, wacky characters. In general, seasons of The Bachelorette tend to struggle more because the guys the show casts are not particularly dynamic. This season is also down around 9% year-to-year in adults 18-49 versus last year — that’s not a terrible decrease since many shows often fall further from year to year, but we do think that this show needs to find ways to keep entertaining that younger base. They are really the lifeblood of the series.
