The Crown season 3: Tobias Menzies talks lack of Prince Philip photo
Ultimately, though, this is not a matter of show producers not wanting to show off the Outlander actor. Instead, it’s more of a situation where all parties involved are waiting to get the right image. Given all of the hype surrounding this show and Menzies’ casting, you want to make 100% certain that the image that you get is perfect. That’s something that Tobias himself discussed in a recent post on Twitter (see the bottom of this article).
Tobias has been spending a good bit of time this year already filming as Philip, and while season 3 for The Crown does not premiere until 2019, we imagine that there will be many more teases shared throughout the year. After all, there is no reason for Netflix to hold off on that. The Crown is one of their more-successful global series, and it is also one of their most upscale insofar as viewership goes. They’re going to want to promote it as much as possible to ensure that it stays relevant in the midst of a hiatus that is a little bit longer than what you had between season 1 and season 2.
Could this be Menzies’ breakout role? Maybe in terms of being a mainstream commodity, but we like to think that he’s well-known already among mainstream fans. He’s been great in just about everything he’s been a part of, and we are still reeling over the egregious snubs that happened the past couple of years in between Outlander and The Terror. With The Crown already being an awards-show favorite, maybe this is an opportunity for him to get some much-deserved recognition.
