Star Trek: Discovery season 2: First look at Anson Mount’s Christopher Pike

Star Trek: Discovery premiere

Today has been a big deal for people once associated with Hell on WheelsEarlier today, we learned about the cast for John Wirth’s upcoming series Wu Assassins. Beyond just that, today we’re getting a chance to see the first footage of Anson Mount as Christopher Pike.

You can see Mount (who played Cullen Bohannon on the AMC series) in the video below, which contains some of the first extended footage of the second season. Christopher Pike is of course an iconic character within Star Trek lore — he was in the original series as the Captain of the USS Enterprise prior to James T. Kirk taking over. Moving into season 2, Pike is going to try and take command of the Discovery, which he does for a specific reason.

All of this is exciting, especially since Star Trek: Discovery is getting a great actor with a knack for imaginative storytelling. There’s also still so much of this world to explore and we hope that season 2 really offers up a panoramic view of even more of it.

Bonus casting news – To go along with the new footage, Mount confirmed that Rebecca Romijn is also coming on board the second season as the original Number One. (Majel Barrett played Number One in the original series.)

Star Trek: Discovery season 2 is not going to be premiering in the new year, and we’re certainly hoping that it is worth the wait. CBS All Access does seem to be happy with the performance of the first season, but they do remain rather conscious of just how much pressure is on them to deliver an excellent product. There are few franchises out there anywhere near as beloved as the world of Star Trek. That’s one of the reasons CBS Television Studios is looking to expand the world.
