Code Black season 3 episode 13: breaking down the series finale
So was there something we would have liked to have seen? Of course. It was implied previously that Rox had once dreamed of becoming a doctor and was encouraged by an old mentor to go back and pursue that dream. However, we also understand why the show left it opened ended. The writers had to make a decision about which storylines to keep working with in order for the finale to end smoothly, and Rox’s dream wasn’t as important or a main focus. It would have been nice to have further explored that story if the show was given a few more seasons, but sadly CBS decided to cancel the show. Code Black’s ratings have been pretty good lately, though, and it’s making CBS’ decision looked rushed and questionable.
In the event that CBS had granted the show a fourth season, it would have been nice to see what could have transpired and what could have been fleshed out more. With that said, though, we weren’t watching the finale thinking how rushed it was. We enjoyed it and then after wondered after what season 4 would have been like. So we applaud the writers on that because it’s not an easy task.
If there was a Season 4, we would have also liked to see Rox and Ethan’s relationship blossom along with Ariel and Leanne’s. We would have like to have seen more of their journey. Both relationships only just started at the beginning of the season, one having been foreshadowed at the end of Season 2.
Overall though, it was a great series finale that left room for more stories while still having had all our questions. We hope that another network, a streaming service, or cable channel picks this show up because it deserved to have another season.
Congratulations to the cast and crew for making a quality show with amazing characters and stories. We have truly enjoyed watching.
