When should Supergirl season 4 firmly announce Big Bad?
With that in mind, should the production of the show confirm the next one at the convention later this week? There is certainly a history of many shows doing this — Arrow and The Flash both have in the past. Supergirl last year had announced Reign before the convention, but that did serve as a means for some more conversation around the subject.
There are certainly some rumors out there already that Manchester Black is going to be at least one notable villain on the upcoming season based on some casting notices that are out there. Yet, even if that character is included, that doesn’t mean that they are the main baddie of the season. We just think that the timing is right now to start to announce some more information about this character to generate some excitement. Supergirl needs some more buzz, especially since there is a big element of change moving into season 4 already.
We know that from our vantage point, it would be great to have a villain on this show who is pure evil and beyond that, doesn’t really compromise in it. That’s something the series has lacked at times in Big Bads. With the first two seasons, Astra and Rhea were two people who simply came to the table with a different ideology. They weren’t so much evil as they just were either corrupted or wrongfully convinced as to what was good or bad.
Meanwhile, with Reign last season our thoughts are complicated. The first half of the season, culminating in that epic battle in the winter finale, told a pretty awesome story. Yet, things got a little bit muddled at the end and it never quite felt like Reign had her Slade Wilson moment. It also didn’t help that Reign herself was mostly just a Worldkiller shell for a larger ideology. Had Sam actually become Reign, it probably would have become all the more complicated morally … though that also wouldn’t changed Supergirl to a much darker show given that she and Samantha would’ve actually been one in the same.
