Shameless season 9 trailer impressions: The more things change…

Shameless season 8

Shameless season 9 is coming onto Showtime come Sunday, September 9, and there are certainly a wide array of things you could see.

Above all else, though, you’re going to get some reminders that while some Gallaghers are moving forward, there are others who are still stuck roughly in the same spot. Take, for example, Frank, who seems to be thinking that it makes sense for him now to pretend to be Hispanic in order to get ahead. Meanwhile, Debbie is starting to find a new place for herself within the welding world, whereas Ian looks to be spending the start of the season behind bars. Fiona is still doing what she can in order to move forward in life, but we think that some of her old problems still could come back to haunt her. There are all highlights in a new trailer, which you can watch now over at the link here.

In many ways, Shameless is still the same show that it’s always been — but it may be even more obnoxious and over-the-top now just because it really loves to live within the world of the completely absurd. This is a show that likes to celebrate the ridiculous and the dysfunction that lives within us all.

If there is one thing to be hopeful about when it comes to the series’ long-term future, it’s simply that there is no mention within this season 9 trailer that it is going to be the last one for the show. We certainly like to think that if the end was near, Showtime would announce that in advance to give everyone a little more time to prepare. (Granted, that is just a hope rather than any guarantee of anything.)
