Blue Bloods season 9 spotlight: The future of Tom Selleck’s Frank

Blue Bloods season 9

Blue Bloods season 9 is premiering on CBS this September, and no matter what season you’re talking about, it’s clear that Tom Selleck is important. Frank Reagan is an integral part of the show — he’s the man leading the entire NYPD and with that, he is also a guy still trying to be a father, a son, and a grandfather.

So what could be coming moving forward this season? Within this particular spotlight article, we offer up a number of different suggestions.

Resolving things with Jamie and Eddie – It feels like a given that this is something that will be explored over the course of the season. While Frank the father was happy for his son last season over his engagement, he also recognized the problem that could come with having Jamie and Eddie working together on the force. We don’t want to see the two separated and we don’t think that anyone else does. Frank is stubborn, but we hope that someone over the course of this season is able to convince Frank that these two characters working together is the best thing for them. As a matter of fact, they are actually stronger together.

How does Frank resolve a different sort of danger? – It’s been a while since we’ve seen Frank in a situation where he really feels a tremendous amount of jeopardy, and we want to see him at the middle of that. Take, for example, a story where his life is put on the line; or, a story in which a scandal threatens to tear the Office apart in a legitimately substantial way.

More of Frank in the field – We’d love to see something where he, maybe with Baker working alongside him (the more Baker, the better), goes out and handles more situations first-hand. We’ve seen so many scenes of him at the dinner table and the office that it’s always nice to get him somewhere else.

More of him combating the news of the day – This is really the one part of Frank’s story that Blue Bloods can really stay the course on. The show often does a good job taking on relevant topics and doing it in a way that is nuanced and looks at multiple sides of an issue. We want to see Blue Bloods continue to do that, and in a way that remains thoughtful without becoming preachy.
