Better Call Saul season 4 episode 1 spoilers: First details on ‘Smoke’

Better Call Saul season 4

Better Call Saul season 4 episode 1 carried with it the title of “Smoke,” and judging from what we know about this story already, it’s going to be painful. You’ve got Jimmy McGill trying to recover from the death of his brother Chuck. Even though the two didn’t exactly have the best relationship out there, we do think that there was still some element of love there. Chuck knew Jimmy in a way that nobody else did — both good and bad.

Beyond just Jimmy’s story, though, “Smoke” will have a few other important bits of information that further along the stories of Mike as well as Howard. Take a look, per SpoilerTV, at the synopsis for this episode below:

Jimmy struggles to cope with Chuck’s tragic death; Mike ponders his role at Madrigal; Howard makes a startling confession.

The story of Howard Hamlin does remain an interesting one to us as a Better Call Saul viewer, mostly due to the fact that he is one of those guys who is prominent in everything now but doesn’t turn up for Breaking Bad. Is he dead or gone during that timeline? To us, Howard is the one character who is prominent in this universe but could still be in Breaking Bad in some form. After all, we rarely saw anything from Saul’s point of view during the original series and it’s very well possible that people like Walt and Jesse simply had nothing to do with him.

With Mike, we’re mostly just gearing up for him having a closer role to play with Gus Fring. We know that he is incredibly effective at what he does, but that his heart also gets in the way. That’s a big part of what ultimately leads to his undoing … which, at least to us, is the biggest misstep in Breaking Bad. There’s something about Mike’s death that still doesn’t feel right, but that’s not something that should be the focus now.

Better Call Saul season 4 is going to premiere come August, and of course, we’ll have more updates soon.
