Bull season 3: Should the series cast Cable replacement right away?

Cable get her job back

At this point, you may have heard the news that Annabelle Attanasio is leaving Bull after two seasons to pursue a passion project. With that in mind, there are some big decisions that the CBS series needs to make in regards to its future.

One of the big ones is, of course, this: Should there be a replacement cast for the Cable character, and if so, how long should Bull wait before making it happen?

When it comes to the first question, it feels like the answer here is a very-clear yes. The TAC team has a wide array of skills, but there aren’t any other hackers / tech experts within the group quite like Cable. People like Chunk, Danny, and Marissa all do carry with them incredible skills, but they are not the sort of people who can navigate through difficult computer systems. If they were, the TAC would have been able to handle her absence better during season 2.

With that, we assume that the series is going to bring someone in eventually. The larger question here is when. For us, it feels a little too immediate for the show to just have a full-time computer person instilled at the time of the premiere. You do want to spend a moment feeling the character’s absence. Also, you want to get some sort of real introduction to whoever the new character is. You don’t want to wait too long to bring in someone else, mostly because we’ve already done the storyline of the TAC having to operate without Cable as a part of it.

Our feeling here is that the sweet spot to introduce a new character is somewhere around episode 2 or 3. Spend the premiere focusing on reestablishing Bull after he suffered the heart attack in the finale. From there, you can worry about some of the other issues that are plaguing his team, including the search for a new team member. You don’t want to rush through Bull’s recovery too much just because the heart attack could be such a big, defining moment in his life.
