Fear the Walking Dead season 4: Alicia’s quest to take charge

Alycia Debnam-Carey

Fear the Walking Dead season 4 will be returning to AMC next month with new episodes and with that, there are even more questions when it comes to the future of one Alicia Clark. Will she become more of a leader than ever before?

Going into this particular part of the season, we know that this is definitely something that we’d like to see. Alycia Debnam-Carey should be one of the leads of the show now — she’s the longest-tenured cast member in terms of total episodes she has been a part of and, crazy as it seems, she is the only surviving member of the family we first met in the pilot. Remember when we thought that Travis and Madison were going to be around for the entirety of everything that was coming up? That seems now like forever ago.

In documenting further where the journey of Alicia is going to go from here moving forward, show executive producer Andrew Chambliss had the following to say to Entertainment Weekly:

“Alicia is in a very interesting place. She lost both her mother and her brother, so for the first time she’s really finding herself in the apocalypse without any of her biological family. Yes she has friends, yes she has Luciana, but there’s a big difference between having your friends around and not having your mother and you brother … She’s realizing that she is on her own and is figuring out how she can keep the memory of both Madison and Nick alive. And a big part of what she’s going to be asking herself is whether she can fill Madison’s shoes and how that’s possible for her moving forward.”

We don’t think that we are going to see Alicia suddenly evolve and become Madison 2.0, and we also don’t think that is the intention for her to become just some sort of morphed version of the character we’ve already come to know. Instead, we just think that the goal moving into the rest of Fear the Walking Dead season 4 is for her to take some of Madison’s teachings and become her own sort of person in the apocalypse. She can become a leader and a teacher on her own terms and we’re very much excited to see what that looks like.
