Cable Ratings: Queen Sugar, Yellowstone, Queen of the South

Queen Sugar

Welcome to another edition of Cable Ratings! In this particular article, we’re talking Queen Sugar, Yellowstone, and also Queen of the South.

Let’s kick things off here with Queen Sugarmostly because it is one of these shows in the interesting place where it is coming back on the air after spending a week off for the July 4 holiday. Was it aided in some way by the break? As it turns out, not so much! With a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic on the night, the OWN series tied its strongest demo rating since the premiere episode. Meanwhile, with 1.2 million viewers it posted its best number there since that aforementioned first episode of the summer.

While Queen Sugar is still down year-to-year versus what we ended up seeing before, we do still think that there is a good trajectory for it to deliver in the weeks to come. It’s increased its viewership steadily since falling after the first episode.

As for the other shows…

Yellowstone – Not only did the Paramount Network series return to the air after having a week off for July 4, there is another issue present here: It’s a really new show and with that, it’s prone to more variance as people try to determine whether or not they want to continue watching.

Yet, there is some really good news that we have to share now! With a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic and then also 2.17 million viewers, the show has improved versus its previous outing, as well. We’re now more confident than we’ve been regarding the future of the series, mostly because if there was ever going to be an occasion in which the ratings were going to drop, that would be it.

Queen of the South – Finally, let’s turn to one of USA’s greatest Little Engine that Could shows. There’s more great news here! (Is this one of the happiest ratings articles we’ve written in some time? It could be.) With a 0.4 rating and over 1.2 million viewers, this show also posted its best numbers we’ve seen since the premiere. It’s barely down year-to-year in its key measurements and with that, there’s reasons for optimism regarding the future.
