Grey’s Anatomy season 15 spotlight: Our hopes for Amelia’s future
When you think back to her days on Private Practice, we have seen Caterina Scorsone’s character go through more than almost any other character within this extended universe. Just think about things in this particular sense. We’ve seen her struggle with addiction, lose Derek, battle the brain tumor, and experience a rollercoaster of emotions with Owen.
Moving forward, it feels like now is the time to turn the page with Amelia. She and Owen started to move closer to some sort of family unit, bizarre as the current state of their relationship may be, it feels almost like they’ve both found something that they really want in being potential adoptive parents. We also think it’s allowing them to see new sides of each other and themselves, and all of this is really worth exploring. There are elements to this story that we just haven’t seen elsewhere on Grey’s Anatomy and we hope that the series leans more into these and less into a love triangle between Owen, Amelia, and Teddy.
As for how we’d like to see Amelia deal with the news of Teddy’s pregnancy, we hope that she can do her best to focus on what matters most: Her health and those who are close to her. She cannot control the past or even Owen’s present; with that, it’s best to focus on her future. If he’s a part of that, wonderful. If not, there are so many potentially-interesting things that could still be in store for her.
Beyond everything with Owen, we’d love to see something big for Meredith and Amelia together this year in the hospital, a story where they find a way to work together closely and see where the two of them are at in their relationship at this point. It’s also a chance for Meredith to relate to Amelia in a sense of her own unusual situation as a parent; there is even more connective tissue with these characters than ever before.
In terms of the hospital in general this year, it’d be great to see a fun, effervescent Amelia who is there for other people and really fighting in the pursuit of some big advancements. While the devastating material may be great to play, we also think that there’s merit in lighter stuff for her, too. We’d prefer that the first half of season 15 focus more on the lighter storylines before maybe venturing into something that is darker at the midway point — if she does get involved in something serious, we hope that it’s different than anything that we have seen on Grey’s Anatomy before in the past.
