America’s Got Talent video: Aaron Crow, Ken Jeong, and the Judge Cuts

Aaron Crow

The Judge Cuts round of America’s Got Talent begins on Tuesday, and we now know who the first guest judge will be in Ken Jeong. The former Community and Dr. Ken star is joining the panel for Tuesday’s episode, which means that he is going to have a Golden Buzzer that he can choose to give out to any person of his choosing.

Could Aaron be the one who gets it? Given that the acts previewed in advance rarely get said Golden Buzzer, it is unlikely. Nonetheless, there is something very much impressive about what Aaron brings to the table here. He is very precise with his movements and his stage presence is top-notch. There is a good degree of danger to what he does, even though there is more to this particular act than first meets the eye.

If there is one part of Aaron’s act we continue to find problematic, it is that we’re basically just watching his Britain’s Got Talent set from five years ago and pretending as though it’s something different. The audition was very much similar to what Aaron did over on the British version of the show; meanwhile, this entire stunt with the apple and the wedding ring was almost identical to what he did back during the live shows of BGT many years back. The only real difference here is that he involved two different judges in Heidi Klum alongside Jeong. Ken had the responsibility of stabilizing the platform that was atop Heidi’s head while Aaron shot the apple off of it with a bow.

All in all, an impressive stunt regardless of its familiarity. Aaron is a guy that this series needs, especially since there are so few other danger acts that are anywhere near close to what he does. Probably the only other person this season that has shown a similar flair for danger is Annaliese Nock, who did the exploding-crate stunt at the very start of the season.
