2018 Emmys: Outlander, Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe top reader drama picks

CarterMatt Readers have spoken, at least when it comes to who they want to see nominated at the 2018 Emmy Awards on Thursday.

Ever since early June, readers have been voting extensively on a number of different categories in terms of who they want to see nominated. The results are in for the drama categories within this article, and one thing is abundantly clear: Everyone loves themselves some Outlander. While there were some close competitions within a number of different categories, the Starz series managed to score some wins here almost across the board!

Let’s break some of these down a little bit further now…

Drama Series – This was Outlanderand really nobody else was close. In terms of our Emmy polls this year, this was clearly one of the most-dominant performances.

Drama Actor – Routinely, this is one of the most-popular categories and this year was no exception — it was close at one point between Sam Heughan and the also-fantastic Tom Ellis, but in the end Sam took it home.

Drama Actress – There were a number of performers who took home thousands of votes here, including Stana Katic, Mariska Hargitay, and Abigail Spencer. Yet, Caitriona Balfe took it home with just over 42% of the total vote.

Supporting Actor – It was really a two-person race between Tobias Menzies and Jesse Williams, but in the end Tobias finished with a pretty commanding victory for what will likely be his final substantial multi-episode arc of the series.

Supporting Actress – This is the one category that did not go to an Outlander actor, as Sarah Drew won by a commanding margin (think thousands of votes) over Odette Annable, Sophie Skelton, Ann Dowd, and more.

Congratulations to some of our poll winners! Whether or not these influence actual Emmy nominations tomorrow remain to be seen, but the messages we’ve got as a result of them this year is loud and clear.
