Outlander hiatus: Perfect TV guest roles for Sam Heughan

In the midst of this Outlander hiatus, what are some of the best TV roles out there for Sam Heughan away from the show?

As you may know, throughout this week we’ve written pieces already about everyone from Caitriona Balfe to Richard Rankin to Sophie Skelton, and you can check out all of those here. Today, the focus is being put on a man in Sam Heughan who we know is multi-faceted and capable of a wide array of different genres. We also know that he’s super-busy coming up given that he’s got a new movie in Bloodshot that he will be spending some time filming this summer.

Yet, we’ve still come up with a number of suggested shows that Sam would be great appearing on — while they may not all be feasible (schedules probably do not align in every case), that’s not stopping us from having some fun speculating on the subject! Take a look below:

Brooklyn Nine-Nine – Can you imagine Sam as some cat-burglar who somehow manages to routinely escape Jake Peralta and the Nine-Nine? We love the idea of Sam playing someone who thinks he is a master criminal, but is really quite terrible at it and keeps getting lucky to escape tricky situations.

Counterpart – If Sam was going to do another Starz series, wouldn’t this be the perfect one for him? It’s smart, genre-bending, pensive, and would give him a chance to work alongside the incredible JK Simmons for an episode or two. Also, it’d certainly give the series a bump in the ratings.

Lucifer – Sam is friendly with series star Tom Ellis, for starters, and beyond just that this is such a fun show that, like Outlander, brings a lot of different genres together and creates a really entertaining world. Can you imagine Sam playing either an angel with a vendetta against Lucifer or even just someone who gets roped into a case with him and forms an unlikely friendship?

The Game of Thrones prequel series – Apparently, it’s filming later this fall, and while Sam clearly couldn’t be a regular on it, wouldn’t it be fun to see him get a one-episode part after all the times he tried out for it in the past?

Saturday Night Live – Hey, we’ve campaigned for it before, and with Outlander not filming season 5 until February, you never know what could be possible…

We could’ve extended this list with a number of other shows we love, whether it be The Blacklist, Absentia, Wynonna Earp (wouldn’t he be a fun demon for Wynonna to hunt down), or others. Ultimately, the point here is that when you’ve got a talented actor, of course you want to see them in many different things.
