Outlander hiatus: The perfect TV roles for Sophie Skelton

Outlander season 3 episode 5 sneak peek

Now that we’re in the midst of the Outlander filming hiatus, what should some of the performers do next? All week long, we’re documenting this in a new series of articles!

Earlier this week, we wrote about both Caitriona Balfe and Richard Rankin, and you can read more about some perfect TV roles for both of them over at the link here. Today, we’re putting the focus on someone in Sophie Skelton who has absolutely kept herself busy away from Outlander doing a wide array of movie roles. Moving into the rest of the summer and the fall, wouldn’t it be to see her in some exciting, fun, and diverse roles elsewhere in TV? We’ve got four suggestions for her below that would be very entertaining to watch as a viewer. While we haven’t always been realistic with some of our predictions in this series, we do actually think that all of the suggestions here are feasible filming-wise.

The Arrowverse – Katherine Kane, otherwise known as Batwoman, is one of the characters being cast for the upcoming crossover between Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and The Flash. Could Sophie be a contender for that role? That really depends on what the Arrowverse’s plans are for that character — if they want her to eventually have her own show, there’s probably not enough room schedule-wise to make it happen. Yet, it’s an interesting idea to think about since this is such an iconic role and it would certainly give Skelton a high-profile part.

Criminal Minds – Just in case want to see Skelton do a complete turn from playing Brianna, why not make her one of the most villainous UnSubs out there on the CBS crime series? We’ve already seen Aubrey Plaza play a pretty incredible psychopath on this show in Cat Adams, and it could give her a chance to pop in for an episode or two and take on some truly-crazy material.

Mom – What’s so exceptional about Mom as a series is that it’s one of those great comedies that adheres to the typical sitcom format, while also still finding ways to inject a tremendous amount of pain and some serious subject matter. This would be a great chance for her to do comedy (maybe as someone in recovery or someone who forms a quick friendship with Christy), and above all else, who wouldn’t want to work with Anna Faris and Allison Janney?

Mayans MC – Once again, something completely different. Sons of Anarchy had a real knack for giving fascinating roles to a wide array of performers, and the spin-off really should not be any exception. It would be great to see Sophie come on board for an episode or two as someone who finds herself tangled up in the Mayans’ operation, and either works to damage them or help them in some surprising way. In terms of setting, we do think this is as far away from Scotland as one can get.
