I’m Dying Up Here season 3 renewal odds: Will it happen at Showtime?

Following tonight’s finale, will an I’m Dying Up Here season 3 renewal happen over at Showtime? For the time being, nothing is clear! There is no official confirmation via the folks at Showtime as to whether or not more episodes are coming, but it’s never too early to speculate.

Ultimately, there is some good news and bad news when it comes to the long-term future of the series. The good news is that the series, which is about some of the vintage days of comedy, is up in live+same-day total viewers versus season 1. However, it still only averaged around 180,000 viewers a week. That’s still not an incredible performance by any means, and it makes the show one of the lowest-rated scripted hour-long series on the network. That doesn’t have us altogether optimistic.

When I’m Dying Up Here was renewed for a second season, one of the reasons behind it seemed to be in order to give the show a chance to succeed beyond a little bit of a better lead-in. Yet, that hasn’t helped all that much. The series is certainly watched by more people than these live ratings indicate, but it hasn’t gotten the sort of critical buzz or awards-show attention that is really needed to sustain a show with lower ratings. This, in turn, only increases ambivalence further when it comes to the series’ overall future.

Ultimately, though, we were surprised by the show’s season 1 renewal; with that in mind, there’s a good chance that we will be surprised down the road. Let’s cross our fingers and, in the end, hope for some good news a little bit later this summer. Showtime does have a little bit of time in order to make a decision, and we’re not sure that they will rush it one way or another.
