Chicago Fire season 7 will bring big changes to Firehouse 51 early on

Chicago Fire season 7 is apparently not going to make you wait too long to see some major changes. Some of these feel like they are necessary due to Monica Raymund’s exit, but there could be some that happen beyond that.

In a new post on Twitter, executive producer Derek Haas made it clear that there are “major changes coming to Firehouse 51 in the first half of the season.” That could mean a lot of different things, but none of them should be a surprise based on where we are in the series right now. This is around the time in many shows’ runs in which there is some cast over; we’ve seen that already here with Raymund, and it’s still possible we could see that with some other performers. Of course, change doesn’t necessarily mean that any other regulars are leaving; it could just mean that the hierarchy of the firehouse could be changing. Boden, for example, has a chance to move up the ladder, and with that Casey could also end up doing the same. It’d also be nice to see Severide get a bump up as well, after being such a devoted firefighter for so many years.

Ultimately, though, one of the tricky things with Chicago Fire (as we’ve said in the past) is the delicate balancing act between allowing characters to move up the ladder while still also keeping them on the show. It’s tough since we want them to make all of their dreams come true, but also don’t want to see anyone leave the series. That’s something we detailed in our recent spotlight for Severide and beyond that, it’s something that could be a part of other storylines in the future.

Chicago Fire season 7 will premiere on NBC this September, and filming begins later this month in the Windy City.
