Better Call Saul season 4: The story ahead for Gus Fring
So how is Giancarlo Esposito envisioning the man at the moment? Well, just because he knows where his journey is going doesn’t mean that he is looking at playing Gus based solely on the future. As a matter of fact, the actor tells Entertainment Weekly that he views this Gus as a new and separate creation:
This is pre-Breaking Bad, so I always want to think about this character as being one that I’ve never created before, and being one that is coming into his own as this calm Gus that we met earlier.
Is this the right way in which to think about the character? Really, it’s hard for us to every question any performer’s method since this is what brings us the end result. We’ve been rather pleased with the version of Gus that we’ve seen so far and this season should be essential in furthering along the crime-lord persona that was central during his era on the flagship series. Of course, Better Call Saul also isn’t a Gus origin story; from the start, he was further along in his progression than what we saw
